Narrative plots for regulatory, distributive, and redistributive policies

The Narrative Policy Framework (NPF) has ignited a remarkably active research community, one of its main contributions being distinct narrative elements—including settings, characters, and plots. Yet, while the plot constitutes core element narrativity, it received less attention vis-à-vis other components. Existing classifications plots have been proven to possess great ability capture “universal” policy stories, but not specific variations different types policies. This article presents typology by linking their universal policy-specific themes, thereby theorizing from Lowi's seminal regulatory, distributive, redistributive Empirically, focuses on political communication Germany's responses COVID-19 pandemic. narratives were mined Twitter governmental press conferences (March–June 2020). qualitative NPF analysis demonstrates that identified plots—restricting-to-control, liberating-to-promote, providing-to-promote, giving-to-give, giving-to-promote—can grasp policies as well variety. Growth, Learning and Redistributive Policies
This paper develops an endogenous growth model with redistributive taxation in which the growth rate of the economy affects the agents’ preferences over redistributive policies, and therefore, the equilibrium level of taxation. The main mechanism through which the growth rate affects policy preferences is by changing the ability of the agents to learn their positions in the future distribution ...
Welfare Analysis and Redistributive Policies
Applied welfare analyses of redistributive systems nowadays benefit from powerful taxbenefit microsimulation programs combined with administrative data. Arguably, most of the distributional studies of that kind focus on social welfare defined as a function – typically inequality or poverty indices – of household equivalized income. In parallel, economic research has made considerable progress i...
Microsimulation and the Analysis of Redistributive Policies
In this work we explore the impact of alternative tax-benefits systems on household welfare. The framework of our analysis is the theory of optimal taxation with the distribution of potential wages replaced by the distribution of household abilities. The latter has been calculated by inversion of the household’s utility maximisation problem. This methodology has been then implemented in order t...
Redistributive Policies and TFP Differences Across Countries
Economists point towards cross-country differences in TFP to explain wide differences in income per capita across countries. This paper derives theoretical restrictions for interpreting the data based on a neoclassical, dynamic general equilibrium model in which the institutional and technological factors and scal policies signi cantly alter overall productivity as measured by the conventional ...
The distribution of wealth and redistributive policies∗
We study the dynamics of the distribution of wealth in an Overlapping Generation economy with bequest and various forms of redistributive taxation. We characterize the transitional dynamics of the wealth distribution and as well as the stationary distribution. We show that the stationary wealth distribution is a Pareto distribution. Wealth is less concentrated (the Gini coefficient is lower) fo...
